In a bid to create
awareness on new laws related to Child
Protection and new imaging trends on HIV and
AIDS, the staff of Lesotho Save the Children (LSC)
attended a five-day Child Protection and HIV
training workshop that was held in Maseru from
October 19 to 21, 2011.
The LSC Project Coordinator Miss Kananelo Moholi
said the objective of the workshop is to equip
participants with new laws to be able to protect
vulnerable children.
To mention the few laws that the participants
went through are Child Protection and Welfare
Act 2011, Trafficking Act 2010 and Education Act
2011. The main topics at the workshop were HIV,
immunology, treatment, prevention and new laws
related to child protection.

Participants were
drawn from Child Help line offices in Quthing
and Maseru as well as prospective staff for a
new Child Helpline office to be established in
Mokhotlong also attended the training.
The participants were also refreshed their
counseling skills whereby the emphasis were to
encourage counselors not to judge their clients
or impose solution for their problems, but more
to listen to them and give clients opportunity
to provide their own solutions to address their
challenges.
The workshop was funded by UNICEF and the
participants were drawn from LSC offices. The
participants thanked the facilitators and
organizers for the orientation into the new laws
that will contribute in protecting children in
the country.
The child help line project is supported under
Round 7 HIV grant with human resource of
professional and volunteers’ staff to deal with
day to day operations of children.
