The staff of Global Fund Coordinating Unit (GFCU) commemorated World AIDS Day with abandoned and neglected children whom some of them are living with HIV at Beautiful Gate orphanage home in Ha Thetsane in Maseru on Monday December 1, 2008.

As part of commemoration, staff contributed some money from their pockets and some from the office that was used to buy Christmas clothing, shoes and toys for children and also bought other needs requested by Beautiful Gate namely printer, Glugometer and its accessories used to measure sugar diabetes, first aid kit, staff masks, baby blankets, towels, hair clipper and one baby car-sit.

During the day, staff volunteered to wash curtains and play with children at the home.

Speaking at the occasion, the GFCU Coordinator Mrs. Nkhala Sefako said the GFCU staff finds it worthy to commemorate World AIDS Day with destitute children at the orphanage home and present them with Christmas gifts so that they could also enjoy the festive holiday like any other children.

On behalf of Beautiful Gate, the management thanked the GFCU staff for responding to their special request of buying Glugometer facility that is used to test sugar diabetes especially at this time when sugar diabetes is rampant among children as well as adults.

“We would also like to express our appreciation on behalf of children for Christmas clothing, shoes and toys. May God bless the hand that gives so that you can be able to give others needy people in future,” said one of orphanage staff.

She said it is a good feeling to know that they are not alone in caring for orphans and neglected children but there are people out there who remember children in orphanage homes and visit and buy gift for them.
