The staff of the Global Fund Coordinating Unit (GFCU) of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MOFDP) donated Christmas groceries to the children at Maseru East orphanage home on Thursday December 18, 2008. The staff made the contribution from their pockets and bought groceries for needy children so that they could also change their meal and eat delicious food at festive season.

The groceries include eight packets of braai packs chicken, 50kg of maize mill, 4litres of cooking oil, one box of sunlight washing powder and seven sunlight bars soaps, 12.5kg of stamp, 10 kg of Cresta rice, 5kg x 2 of white sugar and four boxes of Rooibos and five roses tea, 500g x 2 packets of salt, 500g x 5 packets of beans, 2litres x 2 bottles of all joy tomato sauce, and three bottles of Vaseline.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the orphanage home in Maseru East, the GFCU Deputy Coordinator Mr. Mokhothu Makhalanyane said the staff finds it is necessary at this time of giving to contribute some money and buy something that will make children’s happy this festive season. “We don’t have much but this small gift that we present today is better than nothing.”

He said looking after children is not an easy task and pray for God to give Children care taker and home owner more strength and courage to continue the good work of caring and supporting needy children, a task that was initiated by his late wife.

Accepting the Christmas gifts on behalf of children, the owner and care taker Mr. T’seliso Rat’solo thanked the GFCU staff for remembering the children especially at festive season like this. He said he is a former police officer who used to work out of Maseru but her late wife had passion for children where she used to help needy children and within no time the number increased.

“Since my wife died it is tough but I cannot chase these vulnerable children away,” he said. Rat’solo listed among the institution that help him is Sentebale foundation of Prince Seeiso and Prince Harry of United Kingdom in collaboration with Lesotho Habitat for Humanity who built him a decent shelter that is near completion. Apart from that he just receives once off groceries from good Samaritans from local individuals and organisations.

“These children are national responsibility and it is therefore encouraging to see other people fulfilling this responsibility of caring for the needy children.”

There are 37 children from this orphanage home.
