Six-international bloggers from
different countries held an official visit to Global Fund
supported programmes in Lesotho from September 19 to 23,
2010. The visit was commissioned by Global Fund and mission
was led by Media Officer Ms. Marcela Rojo from the Global
Fund Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Six-people mission was
comprised of Monique Griffin from United States of America
who is the winner of the Born HIV Free competition, Bruno
Abarca from Spain, Catherine Conors from Canada, Linus
Neumann from Germany, Melissa Bounoua from France and
Kathrin Kauffman from Germany.

The objective of the visit was
to conduct field visits and cover stories of Prevention of
Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV by interviewing
HIV positive mothers and pregnant women as well as health
workers from the PMTCT clinics and head of PMTCT programme
from Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
Among the facilities visited
were Berea Government hospitals, Seboche CHAL hospital, the
newly constructed ART center at Botha Bothe Government
hospital, the Baylor AIDS Peadiatric hospital in Maseru and
the Motsegoa CHAL health center.
Apart from PMTCT activities, the
bloggers visited the children with disabilities at St.
Bernedette Resource Centre for the Blind where most of the
children are orphans and needy.
The bloggers commended the
Government of Lesotho particularly Ministry of health for
implementing programmes that aimed at saving babies’ lives
from the HIV virus. They applauded the Global Fund for
supporting programmes that save lives and transforming the
lives of HIV infected parents from ill health to productive
citizens.
The visitors have their own
blogs written in their different languages that mainly
support mother and child health particularly on issues
surrounding Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT)
in order to create awareness on PMTCT and assist on campaign
to raise funds to scale-up PMTCT programmes globally.
The Technical and Vocational
Department (TVD) of the Ministry of Education and Training
(MOET) develop business and entrepreneurial training modules
for vocational schools in the country to ensure the module
is able to offer business skills that empower Orphans and
Vulnerable Children (OVC) to start their own income
generating projects to support their families.
