The
Principal Secretary of the Department of Social
Welfare in the Ministry of Health Mrs. Selloane
Qhobela has officially launched the BCC sports
tournament held in Bambata Tsita sport arena on
May 28 to 29, 2011.
Speaking during a press
conference at Ministry’s premises on Monday May
23, 2011, Mrs. Qhobela said the total of six
under-17 teams from different villages around
Maseru outskirts contested in this tournament,
the ex-likuena players and football veterans
also attended the tournament.
During the matches BCC sports
ambassadors ex-Likuena player Tsepo Qhojeng,
Bantu captain Tlali Maile were expected to
address spectators and players on behavior
change.
Speaking at the same occasion,
the National AIDS Commission (NAC) Director of
policies, Strategy, Advocacy and communications
Mr. Motlalepula Khobotlo said Multiple and
concurrent Partners (MCP) is common behavior
among African society which is also the key
driver of HIV in Sub Sahara Africa include
Lesotho.


“Unless people change their
behavior and stop having unsafe sex with
multiple partners, stop spread of HIV will be a
nightmare,” he said.
Khobotlo said that Lesotho has
established the BCC National strategy to address
issues related to behavior change in the
country. The strategy cover different groups
such as men having sex with men, migrant
workers, inmates, domestic workers, herd boys
and sex workers.
He said the BCC messages are
currently disseminated country wide to pass the
message to the entire community. Therefore he
said the BCC sports tournament in Maseru
district is just part of message dissemination
to sports men. Other messages are disseminated
through DVD, radio drama and spots, IEC
materials such as posters, brochures and
pamphlets etc.
The Director of Mantsopa
Communications Mrs. Limpho Mokhochane, the
consulting company that collaborate with
Ministry of health to disseminate BCC messages
around the country said the message
dissemination process will not end in Maseru
alone but will be extended to all districts in
the country.
